Following its world premiere at the 2009 International Geneva Motor Show in March, Nissan has announced that the market launch of its next generation global van will commence in mid-May. Japan will receive the first examples of the NV200 Vanette with other international markets following shortly after. The compact NV200 Vanette will be offered in two configurations , the Van GX light commercial van with 4.1 cubic meters of loading space and the more car-like Wagon 16S people carrier that can seat up to seven passengers.

Potential customers can choose between two engines, one petrol and one diesel. The petrol version will be powered by Nissan's 1.6-litre HR16 engine, as found in Micra, Note and Qashqai. It produces 108HP and 153Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

The diesel unit, also found on Note and Micra, is the Renault-derived 1.5-liter dCi that develops 200 Nm of torque and an output of 86HP. Again, power is transmitted through a five-speed manual gearbox.
