Written By nyit on Friday, December 4, 2009 | 7:55 AM

Mercedes-Benz's partner in crime, McLaren, is assembling the last examples of the final edition of the SLR, the Striling Moss, marking the end of one supercar era for the German firm and the beginning of another - the SLS AMG Gullwing. Jointly developed by Mercedes and McLaren, the outgoing SLR was launched onto the market in 2004.

The SLR was produced in five different variants including the standard coupe and roadster, the more powerful 722 Coupe and Roadster models, and the hardcore 650HP SLR Stirling Moss that was presented in January 2009 and will be built in a limited run of 75 units.

Overall, 2,000 SLRs have been produced in the five years it remained in production which is substantially more than any other sports car in this special category.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Driver Plays Dodgem Cars in Poland - with Video

Written By nyit on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 | 11:42 AM

A Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was completely destroyed in Warsaw, Poland this past weekend when the 23-year-old driver of the German supercar lost control of the vehicle and crossed onto the opposite side of the road colliding with several oncoming cars including a Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. Though not officially confirmed by the police, Polish media reported that the SLR McLaren driver was racing against a Ferrari when the accident happened.

If we translated the report correctly, it also appears that the McLaren driver was traveling/racing with his young child in the car... Fortunately no one was killed in the crash though some of the accident victims were taken to the hospital.

Thanks for tip Martin ! Source: Alert24

Swiss Nightmare: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 999 Red Gold Dream

Written By nyit on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 | 9:36 AM

This is so wrong, in so many ways that we don't even know where to begin from. The monstrous eyesore you're looking at is called Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 999 Red Gold Dream and it's the work of Swiss designer (???) Ueli Anliker who claims to have spent more than 30,000 man hours and about 5 million SF, which comes to around $4,35 million US or €3,3 million, to complete the 24k gold festooned SLR. Both numbers sound absurd, but hey, we didn't expect to hear something rational from someone who obliterates a McLaren SLR in such an 'uber' kitschy kind of way.

Mercedes SLR McLaren Red Gold Dream - Carscoop The 'Fast and Furious' SLR comes with more gold than a wing at Fort Knox as even the exterior paint job is speckled with the precious metal. Talking about wings, take Ueli Anliker dressed Merc's supercar in a full bodykit that makes ASMA's tuning proposals look like a work of art. And let's not talk about the interior...

The SLR McLaren 999 Red Gold Dream made its debut at this week's the Swiss tuning show, Auto Emotionen (April 24 to 26) in the city of Berne.

FAB Design's Desire: A not so Desirable Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

Written By nyit on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | 11:46 AM

Why would someone want to turn a future collectible supercar like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren into a Fast & Furious style "rice-racer" and on top of that, spend a fortune during the process, is something we cannot answer. What we can tell you is that FAB Design's proposal is called Desire -?????- and aside from the crab-like fascia and the numerous aerodynamic doodads that include an extra larger rear wing, the SLR McLaren has also received extensive modifications under the hood.

FAB Design SLR McLaren - CarscoopThe result is an output of 750HP and 1,080Nm of torque instead of the standard SLR V8s 626 HP and 780 Nm respectively, for a zero to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 310km/h or 196mph.

FAB Design' package for the SLR McLaren also includes an improved suspension system and 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/30 ZR 20 (front) and 325/25 ZR 20 (rear) Michelin performance tires.
