Italy’s Trussardi Celebrates Centennial with Limited Edition BMW 5-Series GT

Written By nyit on Thursday, March 10, 2011 | 6:42 AM

Trussardi, one of Italy’s top design brands mostly known for its leather jackets, jeans, handbags and accessories, is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year with numerous events and special products, one of which includes a cooperation with BMW Italy. The two companies joined forces to design a limited edition version of the 5-Series Gran Turismo with bespoke styling cues.

The design of the 5-Series GT by Trussardi is said to have been inspired by the world of leather and gloves, which characterized the origins of the Italian brand. The emphasis was on new exterior details and a more luxurious interior treatment.

Hamann Motorsports Reinterprets the BMW 530d GT

Written By nyit on Friday, May 7, 2010 | 5:18 PM

[Updated] BMW/Land Rover/Ferrari tuner Hamann just revealed its take on BMW's unfortunate 5-Series GT.
Coming from Hamann, one would expect a car as divisive as the 5GT to be insane and over the top. Sadly, it's more subtle and understated.

Hamann's 5GT (all engine variants) gets a new suspension setup across the range, functional front/rear spoilers, skirts, and a special rear apron to effectively house Hamann's new mufflers.

Especially for the 530d GT, the German tuner has developed a reprogrammed Motronic, allowing it to pick up 30 ponies to peg output at 275 horsepower (and a huge 620 Nm / 457 lb-ft of torque); wheels are standard Hamann (bling-y).

BMW Adds xDrive AWD Option on all 5-Series GTs and the 740d

BMW is completing the range of the new 5-Series Gran Turimso with the introduction of its so-called "intelligent" xDrive all-wheel-drive technology that will be offered on all engine variants of the crossover model.

Beginning from June 2010, 5-Series GT customers will have the choice of two versions of the car featuring xDrive, the 530d with a 245HP inline-six diesel, and the 550i with a 407HP 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 petrol.

BMW Officially Reveals the 5-Series Touring [60 High-Res Photos]

Written By nyit on Saturday, March 13, 2010 | 4:13 PM

This is officially the release of the 5-Series Touring (see our previous post here) and the car's exactly what you think it is in every way: a station wagon version of BMW's 5-Series, and a damn sight prettier than the postmodern 5GT.

That means that just about anything available on the 2011 5-Series saloon (Variable Damper Control, 8-Speed Sport automatic gearbox, EfficientDynaics technology) will also be offered on the wagon.

The four engines at launch will be the 520d (184HP 2.0L diesel), 530d (245HP 3.0L diesel), 523i (204HP 3.0L petrol), and 535i (306HP 3.0L turbo petrol). Being a touring model, it's obviously meant to be a more utilitarian take on the 5-Series.

2011 BMW 5-Series Sedan Partially Revealed in Leaked Pictures

Written By nyit on Sunday, November 22, 2009 | 12:26 AM

The official, live unveiling of the 2011 BMW 5-Series, which carries the internal codename F10, isn't due until Monday, November 23, but the first batch of photos of the executive sedan with the 'skirt' lifted just high enough so we can get a good peak of the front-end design, have already made their way to the internet.

To no one's surprise, the wide, prominent kidney grille and the shape of the headlights of the new mid-size sedan are almost identical to the 5-Series GT "cross-thingy" which in turn was inspired by the latest 7-Series limousine.

When it goes on sale in 2010, the new BMW 5-Series will be offered with a mix of four-cylinder and straight-six turbo diesels as well as naturally aspirated and turbocharged six-cylinder, and V8 turbo gasoline engines.

Unless someone drops the lid on sixth-generation 5-Series earlier, we'll have the 'Full Monty' on the Bavarian automaker's Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class rival on Monday.

BMW Video Teases 2011 5-Series Sedan, Official Unveiling on November 23

Written By nyit on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 | 2:46 PM

In typical BMW fashion, the Bavarian automaker has published a brief press release stating that the next-generation 5-Series Sedan will be officially revealed to the world on November 23. The release was accompanied by a short trailer teasing the executive sedan's silhouette through the use of the kinetic sculpture from the BMW Museum.

There's nothing else official on the sixth-generation 5-Series, but we do know that it is closely related to the controversial 5-Series GT and that the sedan model will be followed by a Touring version and of course, an all-new M5 that will get a twin-turbocharged V8 engine instead of the current model's naturally aspirated V10.
