The story has it that Dan Bilzerian, owner of a ‘tricked-out’ 1965 427 Shelby Cobra, placed a bet that his American muscle car can beat his friend Tom Goldstein's 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia in a quarter mile race.

Multicultural BMW 728i with Shelby Mustang Front and Nissan Skyline GT-R Rear End

You'll be hard-pressed to come across a more bizarre replica than this BMW 7-Series-based model, which was found for sale in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by Carscoop reader Ahmad. If you do, please don’t hesitate to contact us…

Now, what we have here is a BMW E23 model, or to put it more simply, a first-generation 7-Series sedan. To be precise, it’s a 1985 728i that left the Bavarian firm’s factory with a 2.8-liter inline-six gasoline unit delivering 184 horsepower.

For aesthetic reasons us ordinary mortals would find hard to comprehend, the owner of the BMW went and transformed the front-end of the 728i in the likes of a Shelby Mustang, and the rear to imitate the look of a Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. The US$55,330 GT500, US$90,950 GT-R and US$98,010 Z06 are all within the budgets of most mid-life crisis suffers (providing you sell the house, the kids and the dog) and offer the sort of performance that was once the sole reserve of great Italians like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati.

And they’re not stripped out racers either. The Z06, for instance, comes with such luxuries as heated leather seats, Bose audio, Bluetooth and sat nav. You can’t buy a second-hand Lamborghini with that sort of equipment for US$98,010.

Shelby Introduces Limited Edition 2012 Shelby GT350, Adds Convertible Option for the First Time Since 1970

At the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, Shelby unveiled the limited edition 2012 Shelby GT350, which enters the new model year with two fresh color options and, for the first time since 1970, a convertible body style. Based on the Ford Mustang GT, the Shelby GT350 comes with three engine choices, including a base version with a naturally aspirated 430HP V8 mated to either a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission, and two supercharged variants delivering 525HP and 624HP.

The new color options are Race Red and Kona Blue, both with white Le Mans stripes, while the Performance White with blue Le Mans stripes combo continues for the 2012MY. Last but not least, the new GT350 convertible can be ordered with a light bar, while other options include a once piece drive shaft and color coordinated billet aluminum engine cap set.

“Last year, we brought back the GT350 45 years after it was launched,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby American. “They look and sound just like the ones we built in 1965. We’re repeating history by offering two additional colors and building a few convertibles for the second year of production.”

Prices, not including the donor Mustang GT, start from US$26,995 for the naturally aspirated version and US$33,995. The company said it plans to keep production limited to 350 units.

According to a recently published article by Roush Performance, both Shelby and Roush have met with Ford Motor Company to design and engineer the 2011 SR-71 Mustang which will go up for auction at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Airventure Aviation Show. All proceeds from the auction will go to support the EAA’s Young Eagles program.

Ford Motor Company has been a proud supporter of EAA and the Young Eagles for the past 15 years by providing various vehicles and donations each year to be raffled and auctioned off. Last year Ford created the AV-X10 Mustang which sold at auction for $250,000. The year prior Ford built another one-of-a-kind Mustang for the Airventure show, the 2008 AV8R Mustang. The AV8R was named after the famous P-51 fighter plane, which played a key role in World War II as a bomber escort. It sold for an amazing $500,000! In 2006 Ford and Shelby donated a Shelby GT-H Mustang, which sold for $250,000.

The 2011 SR-71 Mustang was inspired by the SR71 "Blackbird" spy plane built by Lockheed Martin in the 60s, an airplane that holds the world record for the fastest air breathing manned aircraft in history. The SR-71 Mustang will be packed with tons of unique features including a Whipple Twin Screw Supercharger atop it's 5.0L V8 engine and Carroll's and Jack's signatures embroidered on the seats. The auction for the SR-71 Mustang will take place on July 29th at 7:30 PM CST at the EAA Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

With the 2010 Shelby GT500, SVT's engineers claim they've turned a 500 HP Mustang into a 540 HP super car. They've succeeded, but don't worry; it'll still do enormous burnouts.

Like the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, this new GT500 isn't an all-new car, but rather an extreme development of the previous platform. That old2007 Shelby GT500set the world alight with its 500 HP, 480 Lb-Ft 5.4-liter supercharged V8, offering an unprecedented level of straight line performance — running the quarter mile in the low 12-second range — for just $41,675. But it was a one trick pony, floating with dangerous imprecision around corners and offering very little feel on its way to spinning at the slightest provocation. Driving that car was an exercise in point and shoot: slam on the brakes, drive slowly around the corner, then stomp on the gas once the steering's pointed straight. According to both Ray and Ford representatives, I'm the only person in the world who actually liked its kill-you-at-the-slightest-mistake personality.

This 2010 model couldn't be any more different. Starting with the $79,995 2009 Shelby GT500KR, Ford's SVT engineering team set out to make a friendlier, faster package that could defy its muscle car roots and genuinely compete, in more than a straight line, with real super cars costing many times its $48,175 price tag. Compared to its predecessor, the new GT500 gains stiffer 

We didn't get 22 MPG while driving the 2010 GT500. There's two approaches you can take to going fast in this Shelby: work hard or take it easy. The first is more fun; take advantage of the new-found control to finish shedding the immense speed as you enter a corner, hit the redline downshifting, get on the throttle, use the power to get the front end around then bounce off the rev limiter before grabbing another gear. It's a dramatic approach that would have sent you off the road in the old car and it'll still scare the crap out of your passengers. That 540 HP is now eminently exploitable thanks to the increased grip and greater feel, but it arrives at 6,200 RPM, just 500 RPM before the redline, meaning it's difficult to blend gears together up-shifting under maximum acceleration on the road. That's not made any easier by the short shift on this Tremec TR6060 6-speed; already a somewhat notchy gearbox, the newly lost length in throw can make shifts slower than you'd hope, blunting otherwise outrageous acceleration.

The other way to drive the GT500 is by taking advantage of the 510 Lb-Ft of torque, which peaks at 4,500 RPM, to hold a gear higher than you'd normally think possible at this pace. Driving smoothly like this is probably faster, taking advantage of the new-found grip and composure to tackle corners smoothly, but still incredibly quickly. This is now more than just a muscle car, its A-to-B mountain road pace has just moved up with some of best AWD cars — the GT500 can exploit its all-conquering power just as competently, but with a bit more drama.

After the presentation of the new Shelby GT350, it's time for Ford to unveil the Shelby GT500 that's also based on the 2011 model year Mustang and will be available as a coupe, convertible and for the first time, with the glass roof option.

Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) has packed a more powerful yet lighter and more fuel efficient supercharged V8 engine under the hood of the latest Shelby GT500.

The all-new aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine cranks out 550 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of peak torque, or 10HP more and the same torque as the previous GT500.

As expected, it didn't take long for Shelby to introduce its latest take on the new 2011 Ford Mustang GT that signals the return of a 5.0-liter V8 engine. The launch of the Shelby GT350 in concept form took place at the Barrett-Jackson Auction Opening Night Gala in Arizona and coincided with the 45th anniversary of the first 1965-1970 GT350 and first Shelby big block Cobra.

The Shelby GT350 will be a post title program meaning that a customer purchases a Mustang GT and then the car is shipped either by a Ford dealer or the buyer himself to Shelby's Las Vegas facility for conversion.

Once the car arrives at the factory, Shelby's team start working on the Mustang to turn it into a GT350. The package includes a Ford Racing supercharger that boosts the new 5.0 V8 to around 500 horsepower, a set of Baer Brakes and 19-inch Cragar alloys in Goodyear tires.

In addition, the GT's suspension is upgraded with new Ford Racing springs, struts, sway bars and adjustable caster/camber plates, as well as a sport exhaust system with center-exit tail pipes..

In terms of appearance, the car receives a new front fascia, tail light trim, front splitter, rear deck lid filler panel and rear fascia plus functional scoops on the side rockers and hood, and the necessary badges.

Inside, Shelby ads a plaque on the lower center console while the A pillar carries a fuel pressure, oil pressure and boost gauge for a "Fast and Furious" look (...).

Aside from the cost of the base Mustang GT, those interested will have to write a cheque for $33,995 to Shelby pushing the total price to somewhere around $62,000 to $65,000 (assuming that the 2011 Mustang GT will maintain the current model's pricing).
