Geneva 2011: SsangYong Says SUT 1 Aims to be the “World’s Best Pickup Truck”…

Written By nyit on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 | 8:09 PM

Ladies and gents, meet South Korea's SsanYong latest creation, the SUT 1 Concept that was revealed at this week's 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The SUT 1 is a pre-production study of an SUV with a truck bed at the back that will replace the current Actyon Sports. According to the troubled (in more ways than one, as you'll see) automaker, the goal of the SUT 1 concept is simple -ahem- "to be the world's best pick-up truck."

Setting aside these overly ambitious claims, it's easy to see that this concept looks a lot better than the Actyon Sports. Gone are the boat-like nose and the "crying” headlights, giving way to a far better-looking front that sports an imposing honeycomb grille and modern detailed headlamps.

However, the rest of the car is not very different: the profile remains the same, with only the roof and load-area rails being new, while at the back the only obvious changes are the higher placed reshaped taillights and the slightly redesigned rear door. It looks more like a facelift than a pre-production concept study.

Powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine, the SUT 1 has a relatively low CO2 emissions level for a pick-up truck - 193 grams of CO2 per kilometer for the rear wheel-drive model with a manual transmission. The engine delivers 155-horsepower and 360 Nm (265.5 lb-ft) of torque from 1,500 rpm, with a low end value of 190 Nm (140 lb-ft).

As with the Actyon Sports, the SUT 1 will be available with either rear- or all-wheel-drive and with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Details about load capacity only refer to the deck having an area of 2 square meters (21.5 sq. ft).

Production of the SUT 1 will begin in the second half of 2011, with sales starting in early 2012.

SsangYong Believes Actyon Sports is Popular Enough to Spawn a Successor, Concept Model Coming to Geneva

Written By nyit on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 | 3:23 AM

SsangYong, the ailing South Korean automaker that will soon pass into the control of India's Mahindra & Mahindra, will present a new concept model of its Actyon Sports at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. To be precise, SsangYong said in a statement that it will show "a stylish new concept of its popular Actyon Sports" called the SUT 1. You can see a selection of pictures of the current "popular" Actyon Sports as well as its precursor, the unforgettable Musso SUT after the jump.

The SUT 1 previews a production model that will go on sale across Europe and other markets from early 2012. As with both of its predecessors, the concept study is a hybrid of an SUV and a pickup truck - something like Subaru's Baja. The Geneva Show concept model is said to be similar in size to the current Actyon Sports measuring 4,985mm long, 1,910mm wide, 1,755mm high, and with a 3,060mm wheelbase.

It is powered by a new Euro 5 compliant 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine delivering 155-horses and a maximum torque of 360 Nm or 266 lb-ft. The production model will offer buyers the choice of a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission in either 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive configurations.

SsangYong C200 Aero Concept Teaser Picture

Written By nyit on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 | 2:07 PM

In addition to publishing a photo of the C200 ECO Concept (see here), Korea's SsangYong Motors has now issued a rendering of its second C200-based concept car dubbed 'Aero' that will also make its debut at next month's Seoul Motor Show. Both variants of the C200 are supposed to be close to the production version that will follow later on this year.

Compared to the more environmental-friendly C200 ECO, the C200 Aero appears to boast a slightly more aggressive appearance with larger alloy wheels, a roof spoiler, new grille and a different bumper.

The C200 made its first public appearance as a concept car at last year's Paris Motor Show. The Toyota RAV4-sized crossover concept was equipped with a new 175-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission.
